In the pursuit of attaining knowledge from the best Kalaripayattu experts, Arpit trained under the Guru P. Thankappan Assan in Kerala and with Anil Alessandro Biswas in West Bengal. His extensive training and research over a decade resulted in the development of a unique movement, space & energy awareness training programme. As a performer he has worked within the tradition of Jerzy Grotowski and has worked under the direction of Abani Biswas.  Following his graduation from Travel and Tourism Management (Delhi University), Arpit went travelling all over India for two years pursuing his independent theatrical research. He has worked intensively and began studying – ‘Breathing Space’ with Arka Mukhopadhaya, ‘Journey’- a creative writing process’ with Suprio Samajdar and ‘Self with others – A psychophysical act’ with John Britton. Since then, he has been performing in various territories, including- Fire dance, physical improvisation, rhythm and performance art. His training includes traditional Indian folk forms like Chhau, Gotipua, Baul as well as Grotowski’s ‘motions’, impulse movement, and walking meditation.

Arpit Singh is the Founder of– Kalari Warriors, Mumbai.

He is a professional Kalaripayattu Master and Founder of Kalari Warriors, Mumbai. He has completed his training in ancient Kalaripayattu martial arts from Maruthi Marma Kalari Sangam, under the Guru P. Thankappan Assan in Kerala and with Anil Alessandro Biswas in West Bengal. 

Arpit also has presented Kalarippayattu at various national and international platforms in countries like Italy, Dubai etc.

He offers both onsite training programs and online classes to students across the world.

Currently, he is working on his own researched module called ‘Kalaripayattu- A body-mind experience’ that focuses on the development of a unique movement, space & energy awareness training programme.

Currently, he is working on his own researched module call ‘Kalarippayattu- A body-mind experience’ and in performance art ‘The art of movement- A physical approach to character’. Most recently, he performed in Shapeshift Collective’s Moonfool and Agent provocateur a dance-theatre piece directed by Sujay Saple. With the strong belief that knowledge grows by sharing, Arpit established a Kalarippayattu studio ‘Kalari Warriors’ in 2014 where he practices every morning with his students. A regular visiting faculty at Whistling woods International and Sumeet Nagdev Dance Arts -Mumbai – 2014 till now. Visited many acting and dance schools in India as a guest faculty for Kalaripayattu and theatre making training.

Arpit has worked across the globe as a performer, director, writer and movement choreographer since 2009 for theatre and now in films. A renowned professional fire dancer, he has performed in India and abroad and has directed and acted in street plays for the biggest street demonstration of India ‘India against corruption’ (Anna Hazare movement). His thirst for excellence is unquenchable, and it always feels the journey has just begun… onwards and upwards – one move at a time.

Fire Dance is a moving meditation that improves coordination, balance, flexibility, and strength, and develops refined motor skills. Fire dancing classes teach artists how to swing objects soaked in fuel and lit on fire around their bodies safely. We take poi classes, chest motion, and single and double staff classes. Most classes are taught without using fire so students can comfortably learn the skills before lighting their tools on fire and risking injury.
